USA on climate change ‘We will go forward and join the consensus’.

I loved that it took tears, and condemnation from the nations of the world at the just concluded climate talks in Bali, for USA to back down. “It’s a breakthrough” everyone is saying, and so it is. By 2012 countries of the world will be required to adhere to binding limits on carbon emissions.

It has taken decades for one of the worlds most educated, richest and most advanced countries to accept that the world is at risk to climate change. From an African perspective - this is absolutely amazing. But probably too late.

Finally George W. Bush has agreed to be part of the process. Or has he …he just gave the job to the next US president whom ever she may be. American politics is wonderful – almost as good as our African comedies - First lady of Kenya, Lucy Kibaki just slapped someone in public – again.

Puppies and hell

Living in Africa can be tough at times. Yes we have the open skies, the grassy fields the wildlife, and all that… but what about dogs? I’m watching my puppies grow… It reminds me of the day their mom Panda was bought. It was in a sunny sandy village near Kilifi. One of ten totally scabby disgusting pups being sold as pedigree by a lying conniving mean old German lady. All the puppies were fighting for attention – eager to get out of that concrete German jail. Call it genius, Panda leaped onto the lap of my kid and looked at him sadly with huge watery eyes. A black dog with half a white face, ….pure mongrel shenzy, destined for a life of streets. She licked him quickly on the chin, he melted. I couldn’t say no, it was Christmas. She vomited in the car on the way home. I had to clean it up.

She’s now grown up, has her own puppies and she still takes great pride in being bad.
How do you punish a dog not to put muddy paws on your clean suit? Sell her puppies...
